Meeting Claire Porter

Get to know our Committee Member, Claire Porter and her love for the Canning Show!

Claire has been a member of the committee for 20 years. Over the years of hard work she has put in, her favourite part of all of it is being able to give back to the community.

Outside of working at CAHRS, Claire is an Office Manager at a Primary School. Her work is very diverse where no two days are the same for her. Working closely with all staff, students and parents, she helps ensure smooth day-to-day operations of the school. Her experience in this role and further strengthened her understanding of the importance of committee roles and effective governance.

Claire has been attending the Canning Show since she was 15 years old. Her and her friends would see the fireworks on a Friday night then enjoy their time on all of the rides. Later on, once her husband joined the committee to, she started volunteering at the Canning Show. This was always a great experience for them and was even better once their children started coming too.

The Patch Picks

Best flower to grow: Claire love to grow sunflowers. Every time she has grown them, they have always thrived.

Local hidden gem: The Back Beach at Lancelin. It is nearly always windy but driving on the beach she says is great for her soul.

Favourite movie: Claire’s favourite movie is Training Day with Denzel Washington. “Any movie with Denzel has my vote“.

Claire lives by a piece of advice that we all need to hear sometimes:

Life never gives you more than you can deal with. Breathe through whatever is happening – it is only a moment.
