Photographer, Handyman, Architect, he does it all! Get to know our former Committee Member, Colin Dawkins

Colin was a member of our committee from 1992 to 2025 but had been volunteering at CAHRS since 1989. After being a part of CAHRS for over 37 years, Colin loves being involved in something that is so great and giving back to the community. When he first started volunteering at the show it was through the Canning Apex Club. They would run the gates and the Bar. Outside of the office, Colin is very handy with his tools.
For 25 years he worked as an Architectural Draftsman, then as a Franchisee for Jim’s Building Maintenance, followed by being a Handyman working for himself.
When it comes time for the Canning show, Colin always makes sure to check out the photography section in the displays. In later years, he has even started entering some of his own photography work.
The Patch Picks
Hidden gem: ‘Two Mad Tuscans’ café in Inglewood. It is a great small restaurant, and the owners are very friendly.
Favourite local business. Sugar & Nice. Colin says they have fantastic cinnamon scrolls.
Favourite book: The Lord of the Rings books by JRR Tolkien. He loves the descriptions of the character and scenery.
Colin’s must have tool:
Good Riddance insect repellent is a must have if you don’t want to be bitten by mosquitoes. It is an Australian product and is very effective!
Quick Fire Round
- Favourite season: He loves autumns because it is a nice break from summer and there is a lot less wind, which is great for playing tennis.
- A fun fact: Colin has designed and drawn up his last two houses and even built one of them.
- Hobbies: “Eating and drinking come at the top of my list but I also love playing tennis.”
