With over 50 years of service and a secret scone recipe he refuses to share, Geoff is the ultimate guardian of Cannington’s heritage and community spirit.

If there is anyone who understands the DNA of Cannington, it’s Geoff. With over five decades of service to the CAHRS committee, Geoff has dedicated his life to creating facilities and activities that bring people together. His professional background as the former Manager of Recreation Services for the City of Canning, and later his work establishing their heritage service, has given him a unique blueprint for how to build a thriving, connected community. Even in “semi-retirement,” Geoff continues to serve on various not-for-profit boards, proving that his commitment to the public good never truly slows down.
Geoff’s connection to the Canning Show began in childhood, traveling south of the river with his father to witness the magic of the event. While he holds fond memories of the Perth Royal Show, his true joy comes from seeing the modern-day participation of the local community. For Geoff, the Show isn’t just an event; it’s a living display of local talent and spirit.

Geoff lives by a piece of advice:
Everyone has a right to an opinion whether I believe in it or not.
Quick Fire Round
- Favourite season: Geoff really enjoys the spring time. The colours of Western Australia and warmer weather are something he looks forward to every year.
- Fun fact: Loves the pipe-organ instrument, despite not knowing how to play it.
- His secret weapon: His legendary scone recipe. Don’t bother asking for the ingredients, though—he’s keeping that “leading edge” hidden for the Canning Show Exhibition!
- The Essential Bloom: If he could only grow one thing, it would be a rose (a classic choice inspired by C.J. Dennis’ The Sentimental Bloke).
- The Golden Rule: Functionality matters. Whether it’s a heritage place or a community group, Geoff believes in things that work well for the people they serve.
