Empowering the Future of Agriculture: CAHRS Sponsors Local Youth at the 2026 Young Sheep Handlers Expo
At CAHRS, we believe that inspiring and supporting the next generation is the key to a thriving agricultural sector. That is why we were incredibly proud to provide sponsorship for local young people to attend this year’s Young Sheep Handlers Expo run by Royal Agricultural Society of WA.
The dynamic three-day expo offered participants aged 9 to 22 a comprehensive, hands-on introduction to the sheep industry. Designed to promote opportunity, comprehension, and expertise, the event provided a platform for young individuals to deepen their knowledge and discover potential career pathways within the sector
Hands-On Learning from the Experts
Throughout the event, each participant was allocated their own sheep for the duration of the expo, allowing for invaluable practical experience. Guided by industry experts, the attendees learned about:
-
Sheep breeds, nutrition, and reproduction
-
Conformation and animal behaviour
-
Practical skills in preparation, handling, ringcraft, and judging
In addition to the wealth of knowledge gained, participants walked away equipped with their own expo shirts, sheep halters, and memories to last a lifetime.
Real Impact in Our Community
The true value of the expo was highlighted in a heartwarming message received by CAHRS from Rebecca Howman, the mother of sponsored participants Alexis and Leila. All five of Rebecca’s children attended the event, coming away filled with enthusiasm for the industry.
“It was such a well-run, engaging and hands-on learning experience, and the children came away with so much knowledge, confidence and enthusiasm,” Rebecca shared. “Thank you again for your kindness and generosity. We truly appreciate your support and everything CAHRS does to encourage young people in agriculture.”
Looking Ahead to the Canning Show
The connection won’t end at the expo. The Howman family are already planning their visit to this year’s Canning Show, with the children eagerly putting their hands up to volunteer for animal-related activities and roles during the event.
CAHRS is deeply committed to investing in opportunities that build skills and passion in young people. We are excited to welcome the next generation of primary producers, exhibitors, and volunteers into our agricultural community, and we look forward to seeing Alexis, Leila, and their family at the Show!
